We hire and sell Sea to Summit hammocks, mosquito nets and tarps. The Sea to Summit gear is light and packs down, aimed directly at the serious hiker, off grid cyclist or kayaker.
I got addicted to hammock camping around 10 years ago when recovering from some fractured ribs. Being off the ground and the hammock shaping to my back rather than the flat skinny foam mattress was pure joy. Hammocks are great for rough terrain where you a struggling for a flat square of ground. A couple of nicely spaced trees do come in handy though. I am lobbying campsites to have “hammock zones” remember were you heard it first and please join in the lobbying.
The Sea to Summit hammocks are light and pack down really small and I often take along with a small tent if the trip allows for it, all sleeping options covered. The dedicated buckle system does mean that you have to buy the dedicated suspension straps for your hammock if you want to go the purchasing route.
